How Do You Play Beer Pong?

Many newbies to the sport don’t know what beer pong is, or how to play the game. Beer pong is a game that usually involves drinking, and is played with four players. The purpose of the game is to throw table tennis balls into the opposing team’s cups before they throw balls into your team’s cups. Each team takes turns throwing, and when a cup is hit, it must be removed from the table.

The game is played on a table, and uses 22 cups (10 on each side + 2 water cups) and two table tennis balls during play. In addition to the beer pong equipment beer or other beverages are also required to participate in the game.

Throwing

Beer Pong Throw

Many different shooting styles exist in beerpong gameplay. A few of the most popular styles are:

Fastball (aka Lazer)

This shot has little to no arc, and is not allowed during many beer pong games. The shot is thrown from above, and aimed directly down.

Arc Shot

This shot goes upwards before angling back down and going into the cup. Arc shots are less likely to knock over cups, and are welcomed globally.

Bounce Shot

A shot that bounces off the table surface before going into the cup. The bounce shot can be blocked in many versions of gameplay. Seeing as the ball is allowed to be blocked, variations of the bounce have cropped up, including:

The Muck Shot

A very low bouncing shot with the intent of having the opposing team try to block and have their cups knocked over.

The Popfly

A high bouncing shot with the intent of tricking the opposing team to thinking that it was an arc shot, rather than a bounce.
